Cellular Aging Research
Epithalon
Epithalon, also called Epitalon, is a lab-made peptide consisting of four amino acids—the building blocks of proteins. Researchers study it to better understand how cells change as they age.
One area of research focuses on telomeres, the protective ends of chromosomes that help protect genetic material. In a study of human cells grown in a laboratory, Epithalon increased the activity of an enzyme that maintains these ends, and researchers observed longer telomeres.
These findings concern cells in a laboratory. They do not establish that Epithalon slows aging or extends life in people.
